The rural economy in the northeast is dependent on forest products but in recent decades there has been stagnation with an aging workforce and bottlenecks not allowing the industry to keep up with the demand. We want participants to look for solutions for improving data collection/management, reducing the bottlenecks in the added-value supply chain and explore uses of data for carbon sequestration and sustainable harvesting. There are vast opportunities for the industry to be reinvented and reinvigorated with technology.
What do you envision for the future of Vermont’s forestry industries and where can technology make the biggest impact?
